When he decides to stay at home for a while, the sexual tension between Dave and Emily surfaces one again. Hearing rumours that Brian is violent and an alcoholic, Dave becomes convinced that Emily is trapped in an abusive relationship. Soon, Dave begins a heated affair with Emily. When he receives a frantic call from her, Dave shows up at Emily's house to find Brian standing over her. Dave attacks Brian and in the ensuing fight, Brian falls down the stairs and is instantly killed. Emily convinces Dave to leave; she'll claim it was an accident, an act of pure self defence.
